Freshly flushed into the storm surge season

BREMERHAVEN. Many people have little enthusiasm for washing up, especially at night. Not so at bremenports: In January, the workboat “Hol Blank”, its ten-man crew and a water injection device were used in a night-time operation to flush out the caulking gates of the Geestesperrwerk. A routine inspection had previously revealed that peat-like solidified silt had accumulated there. “In view of the storm surge season ahead of us, we wanted to ensure that the flood barrier would work in an emergency,” says Udo Skeraitis, team leader for plant operations at bremenports.
