No businessman, who claims to act responsibly, can avoid the issue of sustainability nowadays. Consequently, it is not surprising that the Bertelsmann Foundation concluded in its study on “Value Creation in the 21st Century” that sustainability represents a major driving force for roughly 60 per cent of companies concerning the strategic realignment of their business models. As Sarah Ryglewski, a minister of state, who is the face of the German government for sustainable development, so aptly puts it: “Sustainability is the topic of our time. From a political perspective, we’ve got to put the foot down”.
